What we check
- Tyres – tread depth, tyre pressures, cuts, bulges and uneven wear. More on tread depth
- Battery – a battery health test to make sure it can cope with cold starts. Car batteries
- Lights – headlights, indicators, brake lights, fog lights and number plate lights.
- Wipers & washers – wiper blade condition and screenwash level.
- Brakes – a visual check of pads and discs where visible. Brakes
- Fluid levels – engine oil, coolant/antifreeze and brake fluid.
- Windscreen – chips and cracks that can spread in freezing weather.

Why get a winter check?
Flat batteries and tyre problems are among the most common causes of winter breakdowns. The demand on your battery is at its highest when starting on a cold morning, and worn tyres lose grip quickly on wet and icy roads. A few minutes spent checking your car now can save you time, money and a lot of hassle later on.
Although the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm, we recommend at least 3mm for winter driving to help keep you safe in poor conditions.
