Having a car tyre that is below the legal tread depth limit is a serious risk to your safety as well as a potential £2,500 fine and 3 points on your driving licence, per tyre. The legal limit is 1.6mm of tread depth across the central ¾ of the car tyre all the way round.
If you come and see us, we can check your tyre tread depth and will change your tyres when necessary at around 2mm.
How to check your tyres
All major manufacturers have tread wear indicators on the grooves of their car tyres. You will know it is time to change your tyre when
this indicator is flush with the main surface of the tyre.You should check your car tyre pressure every two weeks and before any long trip, to ensure it meets the manufacturer’s recommendations. You will be able to do this using a tyre pressure gauge and your vehicle's handbook.
Visually inspect your tyres for cuts, cracks and bulges, as these can lead to slow punctures or blowouts.
